Spring Meeting – May
10, 2001
Doherty Middle School
Andover, MA
- Refreshments were served
- Seventeen coaches present, representing 14 schools
- Treasurer’s report: estimated balance as of May 3 -
$4265.73. Approved.
- Test-Writer’s report: More questions next year will be
modeled after previous years. Kent will try to make one question in each
category a bit easier than the others. Discussion on whether to include
formulas or formula page on test.
- In the interest of fairness to all, a motion was passed
unanimously to BAN programmable/graphing calculators.
- Minutes from Fall 2000 meeting approved.
- Topics for 2001-2002: suggested that discussion of new
topics and/or format changes be placed on the agenda in the fall when
attendance is usually greater. It was noted that the Arithmetic category
has seemed to have gotten more difficult. An effort will be made to make
the questions more appropriate for 6th and 7th
graders. Topics for next season were approved.
- Cluster configurations for 2001 – 2002 were announced.
- Tabulator’s report: much better reporting by V.P.s this
year! Most were mailed by the weekend following the meets. Coaches were
reminded to include grades and make sure names are spelled correctly. Suggestion
for Bob to meet with V.P.s briefly in the Fall.
- Slate of Officers was presented and approved: President:
Tony Biscardi, Treasurer: Beth Morrissey, Tabulator: Bob Velevis,
Webmaster: Vaag Mosca, Test Writer: Kent Findell.
- Sue mentioned receiving a thank you from Irene Martinoli
for flowers sent in the Fall. Word is that she is doing very well. Flowers
will be sent to Beth Morrissey with our wishes for a speedy and complete
recovery.
- Webmaster report: Vaag emphasized that old contests are
on the site as well as each competition after it occurs. Coaches should
make every attempt to make the site available to students. Sue mentioned
that the web site is invaluable for towns seeking information about
joining the League. It was voted to raise the Webmaster’s stipend to
$xxx. (redacted, see Advisors area) Vaag will include one more prior year this summer and each
competition next year.
- Reminder that dues will be $185 next year.
- Jane Sughrue (Winchester) was recognized for 30 years in
the Math League. She will be missed!
- In recognition of Norton Levy’s 50 years of service to
public education in general and the Math League in particular, it was
voted to name the plaque for the Most Improved Team after him. He will be
invited to the Fall meeting and receive a formal award.
- Awards were distributed.
Respectfully submitted,
Sue McLellan
Outgoing President
