Draft -- to be voted on at Spring 2011 meeting
Minutes from the Fall 2010 meeting
Wayland Middle School
September 14, 2010
1. Roll call. There were 33 people in attendance representing 30 schools.
2. Minutes from the spring meeting at the time of the meeting were not available. When/if the
minutes are found they will be shared with the group.
3. Topics were reviewed (unchanged), and accepted.
4. A new division was added per the spring discussion. Much discussion about whether or
not we should use Mosca as the new division name or Noether (which fits the current naming
system of famous mathematicians). It was decided to go with Noether this year and we may
either add a new division for next year (as there are 7 new teams this year) with the name
Mosca, or add a new way to recognise Mosca - similar to the most improved award.
5.Treasurer’s report was given by Mary Lou Randall. It was accepted and no questions were
asked.
6. Webmaster’s report was given by Kip Bryan. There are 380 names that get web updates
- probably many kids and their parents old and new. Kip will now use .docx instead of .doc
since they are smaller and more appropriate to today’s technology. He reminded us that Glenn
Ellison's book is online in the advisor’s area. He has made a new edition and added a chapter.
Kip suggested we check it out.
7. Test Writer’s report was given by Avi Nagar. He reports that not much has changed since
the spring. He reminded is that we agreed to an easy, then medium, then very hard question
for each round. He let us know the first meet is relatively easy to get interest going with our
students, so they are not discouraged. Kip reminded us that the VP’s should read and review
the questions before the meet and let Avi know of any issues.
8. Tabulator’s report - Rick Yanco was not in attendance. The President will email Rick to find
out exactly what he wants from the coaches in terms of student names typed and sent to him
electronically before the meets.
9. Reminder that there is an advisor’s area with a password which is a good place to find
problems to try with kids.
10. There were a few changes to the Geographic clusters. Cluster meetings began.
11. Meeting adjourned after each cluster met (around 4:30)
